Navigating The Workers' Compensation System- To Hire or Not To Hire an Attorney
In California, an injured worker may be entitled to various benefits including medical treatment, temporary disability benefits, permanent disability benefits, job displacement vouchers, and death benefits. Navigating the workers’ compensation system can be complicated given the various issues that can arise such as whether the injury arose out of and in the course of employment, what type of medical treatment is reasonably required, whether the injury caused any disability, the duration and amount of temporary disability, and the level permanent disability. So, even if the claim is accepted by the insurance carrier, the injured worker is generally in a far better position if he/she is represented by an experienced workers’ compensation attorney who can advocate for the maximum benefits, make court appearances and attend depositions, if necessary. Having said that, it is so critical to hire a competent and trustworthy attorney who cares about his/her clients' well being and not just monetary settlements.
